This CMM Covers Multiple Variants
This CMM covers multiple wheel variants. Effectivity codes (A, B, C…) in the parts list map to the variants shown below.
Overview
The 3-1471/3-1471-1/3-1471-2 is a main wheel assembly used on Boeing 757-200 and 757-300. Manufactured by Goodrich.
Maintenance Schedule
Penetrant Inspection → Overhaul
Per CMM: Per CMM, any wheel requiring penetrant inspection is processed as an overhaul. Owners may elect overhaul at any tire change to extend service life.
Parts Replaced at Tire Change
Every tire change replaces the tire, the main wheel-half preformed packing (O-ring), the valve cap, and the valve core. Specific part numbers and dash sizes vary by wheel and are pulled from the CMM at the time of service.
Always Replaced
Seals & O-Rings
Hardware
Replaced If Needed
Seals & O-Rings
During tire change or NDT inspection, additional parts beyond the routine four may require replacement if they fail inspection or meet the rejection criteria defined in the CMM.
Parts Replaced at Overhaul
A full overhaul includes all parts replaced at tire change (listed above), plus the following components inspected and replaced per the CMM:
Seals & O-Rings
Fuse Plugs
Other Parts on the Wheel
These components are part of the wheel assembly but are not replaced during a standard tire change or overhaul. They are only replaced when inspection per the CMM identifies a rejectable condition. APSS stocks or sources these parts on request — contact us for current availability.
Bearings
Fasteners
Heat Shields
Hardware
Wheel Components
The structural components of the wheel assembly itself. These are not replaced on a standard service and come into play only when damage, corrosion, or cracks exceed the repair limits established by the CMM.
Wheel Halves
Inspection Criteria
GeneralGeneral overhaul criteria — see the CMM for full specifications and numeric limits:
- Drive keys: replace if damaged, corroded, or loose.
- Heat shield: replace if cracked, burned, or mechanically damaged.
- Bolts and nuts: replace if cracked, corroded, thread-damaged, or failing the back-off torque test.
- Bearings (cones and cups): replace if spalled, discolored from heat, pitted, or showing any surface wear.
- Wheel halves: replace if cracked, out-of-round beyond CMM limits, or showing seal-groove damage.
- Preformed packings and O-rings: replace at every disassembly.
- Retaining rings and lockwire: replace whenever removed.
